Hospitality is a lost art. I know there are many among us who have the gift, but for the most part our homes, table and lives have become cordoned off from loving those who are "outside" of our families and immediate friends. I would like to take a look at this profound, powerful, and, dare I say, fun way of serving in the Kingdom of God. Hospitality is that thing that we do that sets a table for more people than we have. It invites folks into love and relationship that they would not otherwise have known. It is intentional about being a blessing to those who would not be blessed without our hand. What would it mean to set an extra place at the table without knowing who is coming yet. The Gospel seems to tell us that this is a place where we encounter Jesus. Remember the whole "what you do for the least of these you do unto me" thing? Oh and the "love others" thing too. Come to think of it, Jesus was continually creating situations where He made space for others at the table - in community and relationship, and in His heart. Maybe we ought to pay a bit more attention to this discipline.
Peace,
Pastor Matt

At the January 17, 2010 11:00 am joint service, the Reverend Mathew Haberman was introduced to the congregation. He delivered to a full Sanctuary an excellent message (with energy and a bit of humor) that was articulate, scripturally sound, and spoke to the hearts of both the young and old.
Following the service there was a congregational meeting where the Rev. Dr. Joyce E. Sirianni, a representative of the Committee On Ministry (COM) of the Presbytery of Western NY, confirmed COM,s approval of Rev. Matt. The congregation then unanimously voted YES to receive Pastor Matt as the Senior Pastor of Knox. Matt begins full time on March 1, 2010.
There were many thanks and applause given to the PNC for their dedication and discernment which they faithfully endured over the past three plus years.
Let us all PRAISE GOD for this time of a new beginning and PRAY for Pastor Matt and his family as they make the transition to WNY and their new family here at Knox Church.

PCUSA General Assembly has formed a committee on Marriage and Civil Union. They have requested churches to inform the committee what the churches position is regarding State Approved Civil Unions vs. Same Sex Marriage. This is the Knox Church Session approved position back to the committee.
NEW ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS Part of the process of working through some of our denominational issues is in looking forward. We have done a good job of evaluating and examining where we are, but that is only half the battle. We will be starting a 10-week Class during our discipleship time at 9:30 on Sunday mornings. The class will begin on Jan 8. The source material comes from the training for ministers and elders for examination to become part of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. This will include the Westminster Confession of Faith, the EPC Leadership Training Guide, the Book of Govt of the EPC and a Survey of Michael Horton\s Putting Amazing Back Into Grace. We (myself and the session) are studying the material towards that examination. We felt that it would be a great opportunity for many of you to learn along with us. It serves to help us all be on the same page, it gets us all more involved in the inner workings of why church polity and theology is what it is, and it helps us to be able to articulate that when people ask what we are about here at Knox. I\m very excited to walk through the material, and I\m excited to see how the clarity and unity of the material will shape us for what God has in store. Hope to see many of you there.
